FOB PRESENTS WELLESLEY'S WATER AND SEWER SUPERINTENDENT JOE DUGGAN
Friends of Brookside were pleased to host Joe Duggan for the first in a series of talks focused on the Brookside Area.
Mr. Duggan spoke on the town's infrastructure and local geology, and entertained many questions from the interested audience. Over forty people attended the talk, which was extremely well received. We only wish we had more time to learn from Joe's long and experienced tenure in Wellesley.

BROOKSIDE AREA CLEANUP Saturday April 2, 2016
Despite the rain, hardy volunteers collected a dozen bags of trash, including plastic bags, water bottles, a stereo amplifier, MANY car parts, baseballs, chunks of asphalt, and many other items from this important watershed and wildlife area. The DPW recently installed No Littering signs reminding people not to litter.

Twenty bags of trash were collected from Scenic Brookside Road, Longfellow Pond and the Town Forest.

Pink Ribbons, Inc. is a National Film Board of Canada documentary directed by Lea Pool. The film is based on the 2006 book Pink Ribbons, Inc.: Breast Cancer and the Politics of Philanthropy by Samantha King. A discussion and Q&A session was co-moderated by Margo Golden, President of the Board of Mass Breast Cancer Coalition, and Professor Anastasia Karakisidou, Head of the Anthropolgy Department of Wellesley College.

Sara Frost Azzam, President of the Wellesley Cancer Prevention Project, discussed the potentially harmful ingredients in personal care products and the special risk they pose to our teens' health.

We were a bit wet, but members of Wellesley Trails Committee and Kiwanis/Key Club turned out to pick up trash and clear the trails around Longfellow Pond. As always, we thank those who participated, the place looks great.
CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR OWN LAURA FRAGASSO, WELLESLEY TOWNSMAN TOP 10, 2011
Why she was selected: Wellesley Planning Board members wrote in a letter to the Townsman that they wanted to nominate Fragasso for her tireless involvement in “several important endeavors within
the town over the last calendar year, namely the recognition of the cultural and scenic value of Brookside Road and the establishment of the Wellesley Community Art Project.”
“With regard to Brookside Road, Laura was actively involved in raising awareness of the road and its surroundings as important historic, cultural, environmental and scenic resources to the town and
its residents.”
The board said Fragasso’s efforts resulted in the town officially designating Brookside Road as a Scenic Road at the 2011 Annual Town Meeting.
Fragasso also coordinated the Wellesley Community Art
Project, which boasts three art installments in previously vacant commercial spaces across town.

Thanks to all who took time out of their busy holiday weekends to beautify our neighborhood. The weather was sunny and crisp and the coffee was hot! Spring / Summer 2011: TURTLE CROSSING PHOTO CONTEST
The winning photo was taken on Sunday morning May 29th. The Richardsons helped the female turtle cross from the country club side of Brookside Road back to Rosemary Brook. For submitting the winning photograph the Richardsons received a $25 gift certificate to Wellesley Books.
Thanks to all who participated - we had some great entries!
And thanks to all who help to keep our turtles safe, especially during egg-laying season.

FRIENDS OF BROOKSIDE CELEBRATED SCENIC BROOKSIDE ROAD
Saturday May 21, 2011: SCENIC ROAD CELEBRATION!
Friends of Brookside celebrated Wellesley's newest scenic road with town leaders and over 30 members of the community.
Sue Webb, Wellesley's Animal Officer, gave a well-attended 8:30 AM Turtle Talk, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony, a walk down Brookside Road, and of course, a large cake. See photos from the day!

Friends of Brookside were happy to join members of the WHS Key Club, the Wellesley Trails Committee, and the Kiwanis Club. Our group provided donuts, cookies, water and hot coffee to an eager group of volunteers.

November 14th, 2010: Walk to Preserve Rosemary Brook
The Friends of Brookside Association are organizing a fundraiser and invite families and pets for a one mile WALK along the Rosemary Brook on the Woodland trail and Brookside Road.
Meet at the parking Lot on Longfellow Pond on Sunday at noon, November 14th, 2010. Enjoy the fall foliage, meet your neighbors, and learn about the preservation of our town's precious wetlands resources. Refreshments will be provided.
