Endangered Northern Long Eared Bat Habitat in Wellesley!

The Natural Heritage of Endangered Species Program tracks Northern Long Eared Bats (NLEB) and has created a map of their habitat locations for the State, two of which are in Wellesley: Babson College and Wellesley Country Club. Due to severe population declines caused by White Nose Syndrome (WNS), the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service listed the Long Eared Bat as a Threatened Species under the Endangered Species Act (ESA, 50CFR 17.11) on April 2, 2015. NLEB is also listed as Endangered under the Massachusetts Endangered Species Act (MESA, M.G.L. c.131A).

Scenic Road Celebration, May 21, 2011

At Wellesley Town Meeting on April 5, 2011, Town Meeting Members voted overwhelmingly to designate Brookside Road as a scenic road!

Friends of Brookside celebrated all of Wellesley's Scenic Roads, and our newest, Brookside Road...

Sue Webb, Wellesley's Animal Officer, gave a well-attended 8:30 AM Turtle Talk, followed by a ribbon cutting ceremony, a walk down Scenic Brookside Road, and of course, a large cake! Town leaders and over 30 members of the community participated.

Wellesley High School student Bridget Brown read the following poem by Robert Louis Stevenson:

It is not so much for its beauty that the forest makes a claim upon men's hearts, as for that subtle something, that quality of air that emanation from trees, that so wonderfully changes and renews a weary spirit.

It was a lovely morning. Thanks to all who attended!
